It’s time to get ready for Valentine’s Day, but that also means spring is not far behind. Check out the new items we found for your home that can pep it up almost as much as spring itself.
The folks at Room & Board invited us to see new entries in their collection of classy, made-in-America furniture. It’s all a clean, contemporary look, whether midcentury classics like Eames and Noguchi or designs straight from today. Many pieces are available in different sizes or finishes or are completely customizable.
Craig Sullivan, distribution manager in Oak Brook, has been with the company a long time and has some great stories about how designs developed.
For example, we loved the Innes, a walnut or cherry media center with three-dimensional lengths of wood on the front. It turns out this detail was inspired by artwork in the office of the company that makes it in North Dakota.
Room & Board has recently added a new, light finish called “shell” because it’s similar to the color of seashells, and some of its cabinets now come in white laminate.
Trend tip: If you tend to choose big, puffy arms for your sofas and chairs, you might consider the Malone for a newer, cleaner look. The arm is not rolled, and the outside is straight, but the inside is still curved.
The tour inspired us to poke around and see what else we could find from other companies and at other price points. IKEA, Kohl’s, Crate & Barrel and Target jumped to the challenge.
