Good Guys Wear Red?
The White Sox will be wearing their 1972 uniforms during all Sunday home games this season, paying tribute to a popular team that featured late manager Chuck Tanner, Dick Allen, Bill Melton, Goose Gossage and Wilbur Wood.
The uniforms will feature the red pinstriped jersey and Sox script across the chest, red numbers on the front and back of the uniform top and red caps.
On June 24, the first 10,000 kids 13 and under will receive a 1972 replica jersey when the White Sox play the Milwaukee Brewers at U.S. Cellular Field.
"Being a part of those early 1970s White Sox teams, with a leader like Chuck Tanner and exciting players such as Dick Allen, Wilbur Wood and a young Goose Gossage, remains one of the fondest times in my career," Melton said. "The red pinstripes and red baseball cap will bring back a lot of great memories for Sox fans from that generation."
On the market:
Former Cuban star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes has established residency in the Dominican Republic and is eligible to negotiate with major league teams.
Earlier in January, Cespedes said the White Sox are on his wish list, along with the Marlins, Cubs, Orioles, Tigers and Indians.
A five-tool talent, Cespedes is expected to receive a contract offer in the $50 million range, with the Marlins expected to make the biggest push.
Cespedes batted .333 with 33 home runs, 99 RBI and 11 stolen bases over 90 games in Cuba last season.
The White Sox have two players that hail from Cuba -- right fielder Dayan Viciedo and shortstop Alexei Ramirez. Viciedo has already called Cespedes and tried selling him on joining the Sox.
The White Sox reportedly signed left-handed pitcher Scott Olsen to a minor-league contract Wednesday.
Olsen, who attended Crystal Lake South High School, was with the Pirates last season but didn't pitch due to a shoulder injury.
The 28-year-old Olsen is a lifetime 37-40 with a 4.85 ERA over six major league seasons with the Marlins and Nationals.
Olsen's best season was 2006, when he was 12-10 with a 4.04 ERA in 31 starts with the Marlins.
