Settlement could be near for fired Sugar Grove library director

The Sugar Grove Library board Thursday might discuss and vote on a settlement agreement with its former library director.

“Approval of a mutual release and settlement agreement” is listed on its meeting agenda.

However, the library had not received a copy of the proposed settlement from its lawyer as of Wednesday afternoon, according to the library’s interim director, who prepares the board’s meeting materials.

The library board fired longtime director Beverly Holmes Hughes in July 2011. The board later cited increased tension between the board and Hughes as a reason.

It paid her $16,000 in August for accrued vacation and personal time.

Hughes declined to comment about Thursday’s agenda item, other than to say her attorney was pursuing an agreement.

The board meets at 7 p.m. at the library, 125 S. Municipal Drive.
