Carol Stream man, Schaumburg woman face felony charges

A Carol Stream man and a Schaumburg woman face felony charges after police say they burglarized a car, used stolen credit cards and fled in a stolen vehicle in unincorporated Glen Ellyn.

Authorities said Nicholas Castigilia, 25, of the 800 block of Woodhill Drive in Carol Stream, and Melissa Warner, 22, of the 1100 block of Knollwood Drive in Schaumburg, led police on a short chase around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday that began in a Wal-Mart parking lot and ended when the suspects crashed into a brick wall.

The DuPage County Sheriff's Office initially received a report Monday morning that a purse had been stolen from a vehicle parked outside the KinderCare on Route 53 north of Butterfield Road. Soon after, a stolen credit card was used at a local business. Authorities provided area businesses with a vehicle description of a maroon Chrysler 300 and said to notify them if the car was spotted.

Sheriff's deputies received a report that such a vehicle was seen in the Wal-Mart parking lot at the southwest corner of Route 53 and Butterfield Road on Tuesday morning. A deputy was arriving just as the car was leaving, and as he attempted to stop the vehicle, it continued south on Route 53, authorities said.

The driver crashed the car into a brick wall near Route 53 and Tamarack Drive, after which both suspects fled on foot and were captured by deputies.

Castigilia and Warner each face felony charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding in a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, burglary to a motor vehicle and unlawful use of a credit card.

Both are being held at the DuPage County jail. Castigilia's bond was set at $150,000 and Warner's at $50,000. They are due in court Jan. 23.
