Fire damages mobile home in Elk Grove Township

Elk Grove Township firefighters are still trying to determine the cause of a fire sparked in a manufactured mobile home Sunday night.

Fire Capt. Tom Zaremba said firefighters were called to the scene of the blaze in the 2800 block of Oakton at 6:18 p.m. Sunday and arrived to find flames and smoke showing in the front door of the residence.

The lone occupant of the home was alerted to the blaze in the kitchen area through a working smoke detector, and evacuated the home, Zaremba said.

The fire was put out quickly, he said, but not before the mobile home sustained heavy damage in the kitchen and living room area. The home was deemed uninhabitable, Zaremba added.

Fire departments from Elk Grove Village, Des Plaines, Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights assisted in the blaze, he said.

Cause and cost of the damage was unknown Monday, Zaremba said. The fire remains under investigation.
