Schaumburg police release sketch of home invasion suspect

Schaumburg police Monday released a sketch of the suspect who attacked a woman with a stun gun during a home invasion last week in the 300 block of Falbrook Court.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call the Schaumburg Police Department Investigations Division at (847) 882-3534.

The man, wielding a stun gun, attacked a 26-year-old woman when she answered her door at 7:15 a.m. Jan. 4 in response to his request to use her bathroom.

The offender was described as a white male, 45 to 55 years old, about 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 270 pounds. According to the victim, he wore wire-rimmed prescription glasses, a gray pullover sweatshirt, jeans and a dark-colored stocking cap.

The man had claimed to be a neighbor whose own toilet was broken. As soon as the woman opened the door, the man tried to use a stun gun on her, police said.

The woman struggled and screamed to her roommate. When the man realized somebody else was in the home, he ran away.

The victim suffered only minor injuries in the struggle and wasn’t sure whether she’d actually been hit by the stun gun, Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said. She did not require hospitalization.

Schaumburg police are reminding residents to use a peep hole or window to see who is at the door before opening it. Caution should be used before allowing any stranger into one’s home, police said.
