Grease fire damages Des Plaines restaurant

A grease fire inside a Des Plaines restaurant caused about $4,500 in damages to the establishment Monday morning, according to fire officials.

Firefighters responded to Stadium Sports Club and Pizzeria, 769 Holiday Lane at 10:30 a.m. to a report of a grease fire in the cook area, according to the Des Plaines fire department.

The kitchen’s extinguishing system activated and limited the fire but was not able to contain it, according to Des Plaines Fire Chief Alan Wax.

The fire spread into the overhead duct work and ceiling, but firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within five minutes, according to Wax.

Mount Prospect and Elk Grove Township fire departments assisted at the scene.

No one was injured in the fire, which was ignited in the restaurant’s deep fryers, according to fire officials.
