Arlington Hts. middle school gets fitness center

Arlington Heights Elementary District 25 has installed a fitness center at South Middle School and started an after-school exercise program at Westgate Elementary School with grant funding.

The federal grant for obesity prevention came through the Cook County Department of Public Health.

Now both middle schools in the district have fitness centers available for the students and staff. The physical education curriculum has been changed to include fitness training for all middle school students, and they are being trained to use the equipment.

Studies will attempt to determine the effect of fitness centers for this age group.

The district’s food services department also offers fresh fruits and vegetables and fruit juice each day.
