Former Illini basketball star on house arrest
A former star basketball player for Waukegan High School and the University of Illinois has been ordered to remain in his house 24 hours a day while he awaits trial on aggravated battery and gun charges. Prosecutors said Thursday that Jereme Richmond, 19, failed to contact the officer monitoring his compliance with pretrial bond conditions twice during December. Lake County Circuit Judge John Phillips, who had previously placed Richmond on a 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. curfew, ordered Richmond to remain in his parent's house at all times after being informed of the violations. Richmond is charged with striking a woman on Aug. 17 and was arrested the following day outside the woman's Waukegan house when police said he was in possession of a loaded handgun. Richmond had a stellar career at Waukegan High School then played for a year at the University of Illinois before entering the NBA draft and going unselected. He is due to appear in court Dec. 30.
