Spellman’s Scorecard: Buehrle’s class act

White Sox fans will miss pitcher Mark Buehrle for more than his no-hitters, opening-day starts and 200-inning each season. His class act will be difficult to replace, Mike Spellman says

Right on the Mark:

On most teams, the role of catching the ceremonial first pitch is passed down to the lowest player on the totem pole.

It’s a job, frankly, most players don’t enjoy … at all.

Mark Buehrle was never one of those players.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to the Cell and there was Buehrle having the time of his life catching pitches, shaking hands, smiling, and posing for photos during pregame festivities. And it didn’t matter if it was an average Joe, a team sponsor or a celebrity — they all received the full Buehrle treatment.

It wasn’t just an act; the guy genuinely enjoyed it.

Talk about a PR dream.

Good pitcher. Great guy.

Sunday drive:

Broncos 5, Bears 3.

It’s over, it’s all over:

Best part of the Blago trial finally ending?

Not seeing a continuous loop of old footage featuring Blago fighting through media to get to his car, Blago fighting through media to get in his house, Blago fighting through media while leaving court ...

A two-horse race:

So, who won the winter meetings? The Angels by signing Albert Pujols and C.J. Wilson or the Marlins with the additions of Heath Bell, Jose Reyes and Mark Buehrle?

Or:

Maybe it was the Cubs for not throwing serious cabbage and years at Pujols and reverting back to their former wild spending ways.

Now, if they throw serious cabbage at Prince Fielder, well ...

So, no hurt feelings, huh?

St. Louis Post Dispatch headline:

“Pujols turns his back on St. Louis.”

Rocky’s tops:

You gotta love that Blackhawks owner Rocky Wirtz is working with the folks at Ringling Bros. to reschedule things at the UC so the Hawks can avoid their annual, grueling circus trip.

This organization doesn’t miss a beat.

People helping people:

Johnny B? To WGN?

This really, really isn’t your parents’ station anymore.

Hey, hey Madonna:

One request: please, no wardrobe malfunctions during your halftime performance at the 2012 Super Bowl.

OK?

Back to the future:

If recent trends continue, look for these acts at upcoming Super Bowls:

2013: Flock of Seagulls

2014: Madness

2015: Ray Parker Jr.

Make that toast ... toast:

Yeah, I know it’s a violation, but I’m rooting for the Packers to go undefeated.

Nothing to do with the Bears.

Everything to do with those ’72 Dolphins, who soon will be coming out of the woodwork with their champagne toast.

Fun with numbers:

Total season attendance for the White Sox in 2012?

Interesting:

I guess it’s fitting, but Sports Illustrated’s selection of Pat Summitt and Mike Krzyzewski as Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year kinda lacks the usual pizazz.

Aaron Rodgers?

Justin Verlander?

Now you’re talking.

Mark your calendars:

Only two months until LSU-Bama II!

Kudos:

To Arlington Park’s Dave Zenner on being re-elected as Secretary-Treasurer of the Turf Publicists of America.

He’s baaack:

“Now they love me more than when I was managing there.”

Ozzie Guillen talking about White Sox fans on the “Waddle and Silvy” show.
