Cops: Intoxicated Aurora man speeds by police blockade

An Aurora man was charged with driving under the influence among other traffic offenses after police said he sped by two squad cars that were blocking a Bartlett roadway early Sunday morning.

Bartlett and Hanover Park police had closed down westbound Lake Street between North Bartlett Road and Route 59 when a driver in a red Mitsubishi traveling westbound passed a squad car in the eastbound lane, according to police.

The driver continued westbound and passed a second squad car with its emergency lights on in the eastbound lanes, police said.

Mark F. Jorgensen, 34, then turned northbound onto a frontage road east of where the officers were investigating an earlier traffic crash. Police stopped Jorgensen on the frontage road and placed him under arrest at about 1:18 a.m.

Along with the DUI charge, Jorgensen, of the 3500 block of Frontenac Court in Aurora, was charged with operating an uninsured vehicle, fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless driving, operating a vehicle on approach of emergency vehicles and failing to obey a police officer.
