Sharp, Toews say power play will click

Is the power play now beyond a concern after another 0-for-5 performance in Sunday’s 6-2 loss to Vancouver?

Neither Patrick Sharp nor Jonathan Toews is ready to go that far yet — even though the Blackhawks are 5-for-53 in their first 14 games.

“I don’t think it’s a matter of confidence out there,” Sharp said. “We all believe we can do it.”

So far the best thing about the power play is the optimism the players continue to show that it will turn around.

“After tonight, I don’t know what to say,” Toews said. “I think we were good in the game in Tampa. Tonight, I wouldn’t say it was in relation to the cold streak we’ve had lately. I think it just went with our weak game that we had. We weren’t that great on the penalty kill as well and it kind of carried over into our power play.

“It was just a team effort that was poor and the power play went along with it.”

Advantage, Sedins:If there#146;s something about playing Vancouver#146;s Henrik and Daniel Sedin that brings out the best in Dave Bolland, the Hawks#146; center doesn#146;t know what it is exactly.#147;I have no clue,#148; Bolland said. #147;No idea.#148;It was the Sedins who had the last laugh Sunday, combining for 2 goals and 5 assists in the win.Understanding the rivalry:According to Jonathan Toews and Dave Bolland, nothing needed to be said to their new teammates about what the rivalry with the Canucks means to the players who have been here a while.#147;I think they see how our games have gone in the past and how it is when Vancouver comes to town,#148; Bolland said. #147;They know what kind of game this us, like a playoff game.#148;Added Toews: #147;I#146;m sure people around the league get the sentiment what it#146;s like. The new guys in this room have done a good job of just playing and doing their job and being a part of this team. We don#146;t feel there#146;s a difference between guys that have been here multiple years and players that haven#146;t been here for so long. I#146;m sure everyone is very aware of the rivalry between these two teams.#148;Working overtime:Six of the Hawks#146; first 14 games have gone to an overtime or shootout.#147;We#146;re in games, finding ways to keep ourselves getting points,#148; coach Joel Quenneville said. #147;The frustration was last year about 12 of those games we didn#146;t even get points, where we let them get away.#147;So I look at it as a positive situation, that we#146;re getting games, whether we deserve to be winning them in regulation or are we looking to maybe to be satisfied to get a point.#148;Keith sits again:Duncan Keith missed his third straight game with a left hand injury.Keith skated Sunday morning but appeared to still have difficulty passing and shooting the puck.#147;We#146;re looking for the next road trip,#148; Joel Quenneville said. The Hawks play at St. Louis on Tuesday and at Columbus on Thursday.
