By Daily Herald report

Groundbreaking on the planned $18 million Carol Stream recreation center, originally scheduled for Wednesday night, was rescheduled to 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24.

Park district officials said the threat of storms led to their decision to reschedule the ceremony.

The planned 90,846-square-foot building will be at Town Center on Fountain View Drive. It's the centerpiece of a $37 million park improvements program approved by voters in a 2010 referendum question.

Construction of the two-story structure is expected to take 16 to 18 months, and the grand opening tentatively is scheduled for fall 2013.
