Why many Cubs fans appear to be excited about the news that owner Tom Ricketts reportedly has signed Theo Epstein to run his franchise, the fan reaction in Boston to the departure of the man who helped to orchestrate two World Series titles is more negative.

A SportsNation poll question at espn.com asked fans to "describe your feelings about Theo Epstein's imminent departure," and 27 percent of the responders were "hopeful" while another 14 percent were "thrilled" about the reports, according to results.

The unscientific poll, which collected 4,398 at the time, also said 10 percent of the fans were angry, 24 percent were worried, and 26 percent were sad.
