Tredup won’t seek re-election to Kane County Board

When Jackie Tredup’s current term on the Kane County Board expires in November 2012 it will mark 16 years of service representing the 22nd District out of Elgin. The end of her current term will also mark the end of that service. Tredup announced Friday she will not seek re-election.

“It is with regret and mild relief that I announce my decision not to seek a fifth term,” Tredup said in a written statement. “This decision does not come easy. I have served under two chairman and was looking forward to the third, who I believe will bring a fresh air to the office.”

That statement is in reference to State Sen. Chris Lauzen, who Tredup said in an interview has been lobbying her to run for one more term. Lauzen is in a Republican primary battle with Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns to become the next Kane County Board Chairman.

“Through my county board tenure I’ve had the pleasure of assisting the Elgin Community Crisis Center with their fundraising efforts,” Tredup said in her statement. “I was thrilled to be in a position to encourage the forest preserve to purchase the Eagle Club, and I am pleased to have worked with the city of Elgin in acquiring property west of Elgin that will be known as the Jack Cook Park.”

Tredup said she will both endorse and campaign in support of Doug Schefflow to replace her on the county board. Schefflow is an attorney and Tredup’s neighbor. She said she decided to back Schefflow after several discussions with him, Carl Misselle (chairman of Elgin’s 2012 budget task force) and former State Sen. Steve Rauschenberger.

“I am honored and humbled by the confidence my neighbors and constituents have placed in me for 16 years,” Tredup said. “I just think it’s time to do something else.”

Tredup said she plans to spend more time with family, her dog, Mr. Dickens, and at her other home in Galena.
