Lincolnshire garbage service to cost less for homeowners

Residential garbage service will cost less in Lincolnshire starting in December, under a deal approved this week by the village board.

Homeowners also will be issued standardized rolling carts in any of three sizes. That will simplify garbage collection for Waste Management, the company that has an exclusive contract for residential garbage removal in town, Mayor Brett Blomberg said.

It also will improve the appearance of the community by keeping curbside garbage relatively hidden, he said.

Blomberg joked that he'll be able to get rid of the “two old nasty cans” at his house.

Lincolnshire homeowners now have three options for garbage collection. They can use their own containers, at a cost of $18.20 a month, or Waste Management rolling carts, for $19.64 or $20.28 a month, depending on the size of the bin.

The new plan offers unlimited or limited service, each with 35-gallon, 64-gallon or 93-gallon rolling bins.

Unlimited service, which would allow customers to put garbage that didn't fit in the carts in bags on the curb, will cost $16.37 to $18.75 per month, depending on the cart chosen.

Limited service will cost $15.80 to $17.80 per month. Additional trash will require stickers that cost $2.79 each.

Trustees approved the deal without opposition Monday.

Residents should start using the garbage carts in December, Village manager Bob Irvin said. Between now and then, Waste Management will contact customers and ask them to choose which option they prefer.

“Everything is cheaper than what residents already are paying, so it's a better deal all the way around,” Irvin said.

People who want to see the three cart sizes before making a choice can check them out at village hall.
