Real penalties needed for church to improve

Recently Pope Benedict commented that he could understand why some Catholics abandoned the church in view of the most recent sex scandals. The Pope then opined that Catholics are “impatient.” Evidently, centuries are not sufficient for the church to achieve control over its miscreant clergy members.

I would like to suggest that every country in which the Catholic Church operates adopt RICO type laws that allow for property confiscation when any organizations shows a pattern of criminality, like moving pedophiles from parish to parish. Just one church property, like St. Patrick’s Cathedral, confiscated and razed and the land turned into a public park where children could play unmolested would solve this “unsolvable” problem.
