Angry at Arlington Heights for ticket

Last month, my husband and I enjoyed an evening with a nice dinner and concert in downtown Arlington Heights UNTIL we reached our car in the parking garage. What a surprise when we got to our car and there was a ticket on the windshield.

The violation was for “no backing into space”. There are absolutely NO signs at that parking garage informing anyone that it is illegal to back into a parking space. And I was not the only one with a ticket (the police person was quite busy that evening).

With no signs posted, how is anyone expected to know this regulation? Also refer to a 8/22/11 letter to the editor concerning this same situation. There are signs galore with information about permit parking in the garage but no visible signs for “no backing into space” — no signs at the entrance we came in to, no signs at the parking spot, and no signs at the elevator or stairs.

If so many people are missing the “no backing into space” regulation, then Arlington Heights should make sure there are signs that are very noticeable or give first offense warnings. If they chose not to do this, it makes one wonder if the Arlington Heights police are using this regulation to fill their coffers!

Arlington Heights downtown is a charming upscale area with nice restaurants, shops, and theaters. And I am sure that all suburbs need extra money. And these tickets do raise money for Arlington Heights, but at what price? I did protest my ticket but found that “You can’t fight city hall”.

However I can refuse to spend anymore money in downtown Arlington Heights.
