Let’s not minimalize Sunday with sports

What is the essence of a desirable community? A community is its people. The quality of its people determines the quality of the community.

What are the traits of people we value and appreciate? Are they not honesty, integrity, dependability and respectfulness? Are they not love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control?

We are not born with these character traits, we learn them. You are in the critical position for seeing that these qualities become part of the people of our community.

One of the places these values are taught and encouraged is in our community churches on Sunday mornings. Are we kicking ourselves in the foot when we minimize the importance of keeping Sunday the day it was designed to be, by allowing our schools to schedule activities on Sunday mornings?

Keeping Sunday as a day to worship, enjoy, unwind and gear up is a solid benefit for us and our community.

I love community sports. However, I love a well-balanced community whose players and spectators are people having these desired traits even more.
