Lindenhurst man denies porn possession

A Lindenhurst man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges he had more than 250 images of child pornography on his computer.

Jeffrey Mortenson, 23, faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of aggravated child pornography but would also be eligible for probation.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Mary Stanton said investigators from her office traced downloads of child pornography to computers used in Mortenson's residence on the 2000 block of Highpoint Road.

The investigators went to the house and received permission to search Mortenson's computer and a portable hard drive, Stanton said.

An extensive investigation turned up more than 250 lewd images of children under the age of 13, Stanton said, and Mortenson was arrested Aug. 16.

Associate Judge Theodore Potkonjak scheduled a trial of the case for Nov. 10. He ordered Mortenson, who is held on $100,000 bond, to appear in court Oct. 17.
