Mt. Prospect grateful for help with school supply drive

The community responded very generously to our request for help with school supplies for the children of families in economic need. A total 173 children from 76 families received school supplies at the Community Connections Center, 1711 Algonquin Road in Mount Prospect, on Monday, Aug. 22.

Several businesses stepped up to help us, with Walgreens at Kensington and Wolf taking the lead by setting up signs announcing they were taking donations of school supplies. Gia Winkler, the store’s assistant manager, started the initiative, which was supported by her manager, Lainie Silver, and co-Assistant Manager Mike Cich.

Their efforts led to a surprise from a family who donated clothing and strollers, which helps us with our soon-to-begin warm clothing drive.

Mr. Jay Patel, the owner of the Subway restaurant at Algonquin and Busse Road, very kindly provided the bags that held the school supplies.

Our appreciation is sent to the Walgreens at Elmhurst and Golf, the Mount Prospect Public Library, the Village of Mount Prospect and the Mount Prospect Police Department which all provided drop box sites.

We are grateful for the generosity of the many individuals and families who donated school supplies and made monetary donations to the drive.
