Now through Thanksgiving Day, Mikes Bike Shop, a family-owned shop established in 1959, will accept slightly used bikes during regular business hours. The business is at 155 N. Northwest Highway.
Although all sizes are welcome, the greatest need is for bikes for little boys and girls.
"Adults without cars could use them for transportation and children would gain a freedom that is created by being able to pedal your own bike," Mikes said.
Past recipients of the recycled bikes include the Palatine Opportunity Center and various churches, orphanages, missionaries and boys and girls clubs. The Palatine Township Assistance Office helps support the program.
