Rolling Meadows garage fire causes $30,000 in damages

A fire that started inside a Rolling Meadows home’s attached garage caused about $30,000 in damage, but firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to the inside of the house Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived at the home on the 0-99 block of Fieldstone Road at about 12:30 p.m. and found smoke showing from the garage, Rolling Meadows Fire Department Batallion Chief Marty Kerrins said.

An aggressive attack prevented the fire from spreading to the inside, and the only damage to the actual house was a broken down front door because no one was home at the time, Kerrins said.

Firefighters found two dogs inside; neither was injured in the fire.

Kerrins said landscapers in the area noticed the smoking structure and dialed 911.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday night.
