Lake Zurich's Brown excels again at Marquette

Last season, Marquette's Rachel Brown was named to the Big East Championship all-tournament team and scored the game-winning goal in a 3-0 win over DePaul in the quarterfinals.

Now she is helping the Golden Eagles to a stellar start for the 2011 season.

The junior midfielder and Lake Zurich High School graduate had a goal and an assist when Marquette improved to 6-1 with a 9-0 victory over North Dakota.

The Golden Eagles' 29 points in that match (9 goals, 11 assists) were the most in program history. They last registered 29 points at Purdue on Sept. 1, 1998.

No. 12 Marquette raised its record to 7-0 on Sunday with a 2-1 triumph at Indiana.

While in high school, Brown represented the Eclipse Select Soccer Club, winning the Disney Showcase Championship in 2008 and 2009, and the Illinois State Cup championship in 2009.

Ÿ DePaul defender Chelsea Grant (Mundelein) provided the assist on freshman Amber Paul's first career goal for the Blue Demons in a 4-3 overtime loss to visiting Illinois State.

Grant headed the ball off a corner kick and Paul rolled it just across the goal line.

Grant started in DePaul's first four games last season before sustaining a season-ending injury.

As a freshman, she was named to the Big East All-Academic Team, starting in all 21 matches and named to the Big East All-Rookie Team.
