Waukegan man gets 30 months in prison in drug arrest

A Waukegan man was sentenced to 30 months in prison Monday after pleading guilty to possession of marijuana with the intent to deliver.

Christopher Profit, 38, was stopped by Lake County sheriff's police on Jan. 31 after a deputy saw him driving on Route 41 in Wadsworth while not wearing his seat belt.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Scott Hoffert said Profit, of the 2400 block of Marshall Parkway, was driving on a license that had been suspended for lack of insurance.

During a search of the car, police found four bags each containing a small amount of marijuana inside one larger bag, and four bags each containing about one gram of crack cocaine.

Profit admitted to the officer that he intended to sell the drugs, Hoffert said.

In exchange for Profit's guilty plea to possession of marijuana, Hoffert agreed to drop the charges of possession of cocaine.

Court records show Profit was paroled from state prison in May 2010 after serving about half of a 28-year sentence for a 1996 conviction for armed violence.

Hoffert said Profit could have been sentenced to a maximum of 15 years in prison if he had been convicted of all the charges against him.
