McHenry motorcyclist dies in head-on crash

A 46-year-old McHenry man who was not wearing a helmet was killed in a head-on motorcycle crash Monday in unincorporated McHenry County, according to police.

John J. Flynn was driving a 1981 Honda Goldwing south on East Wonder Lake Road when he collided with a northbound 1999 Dodge Ram at the intersection of Route 120, according to McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren.

Flynn was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

A preliminary investigation indicated the Dodge Ram entered the intersection to make a left turn onto Route 120 as the motorcyclist was entering the intersection at 11:20 a.m.

The driver of the Dodge, a 74-year-old Wonder Lake man, and a 50-year-old passenger were treated for injuries at the scene and released, according to police.

An object from the collision struck the windshield of a pickup truck that was stopped at a red light on Route 120, but the driver of that vehicle was not injured, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, and no charges or citations had been filed as of late this afternoon.

The Wonder Lake Fire Protection District, McHenry Police Department and Bull Valley Police Department assisted at the scene.
