Tour De Des Plaines Bike Ride coming Saturday

Des Plaines city, police and park district officials will participate Saturday in the third annual Tour De Des Plaines Bike Ride being held in conjunction with Des Plaines Fall Fest.

The roughly two-hour ride entails a 9-mile, police-escorted tour of the city beginning and ending at Lake Park at Howard and Lee streets.

There is no fee to participate, but registration and a helmet are necessary.

Representatives of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Trauma Center will be selling helmets for $10 at the registration site, which opens at 8 a.m. at the Lake Park Golf Club House.

Riders set off at 9 a.m. Water bottles will be supplied by Illinois American Water, and Joe Caputo and Sons and Panera Bread will provide healthy snacks for participants.

The first 200 registered participants will receive a T-shirt and Velcro bike pant straps. Registered riders also are eligible for raffle prizes. To preregister call (847) 391-5410 or visit desplaines.org/tourdedesplaines to download the registration form for mailing.
