Wauconda chamber puts pets on parade at inaugural event

Submitted by the Wauconda Area Chamber of Commerce

Local pets and their owners were given the opportunity to celebrate the dog days of summer at the Wauconda Area Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural “Back to Drool” pet parade recently at the Wauconda Farmers Market.

Sponsored by chamber member Bark N’ Town of Ingleside, this warm and fuzzy event featured three different contest categories.

Congratulations to Golden retriever, Wrigley, owned by Deby Dato, for taking home the “School Spirit” award; goat Daisy Mae, owned by Kim Schmidt, won the “Owner/Pet Look Alike” award; and Spinone retriever Cara, owned by Will Tremont, won for “Best Pet Trick.” Cara caught her dog snacks while blindfolded.

Each winner received a school backpack full of dog treats and gift certificates, along with a $25 chamber gift check to encourage the furry, four-legged residents to shop local.

“This is just one of the family-oriented events we are looking to make a tradition at our annual farmers market,” chamber Executive Director Sandy Hartogh said.

“These fun events not only bring out more people to our market, they serve to bring the community and businesses together, which is part of the chamber’s mission.”
