Woodridge man indicted in dad's weed trimmer slaying
A Woodridge man accused of beating his father to death with a weed trimmer was indicted by a DuPage County grand jury Thursday on five counts of first-degree murder, authorities said.
Yashesh Desai, 21, faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted of murdering Sanjiv Desai, 47, on Aug. 14 at their home on the 0-100 block of Plover Court in Woodridge.
Prosecutors said Yashesh Desai beat his father in the head with a weed trimmer as the victim slept on a futon. He later gave a rambling confession in which he said his father owed him money but also referenced Godzilla and other nonsense, authorities said.
A judge ordered a psychological evaluation for Desai. Prosecutors said that evaluation is pending with Desai set to appear Sept. 23 in front of Judge Robert Kleeman.
Desai remained in DuPage jail Thursday on $2 million bail.
