Carol Stream parks ready to break ground at McCaslin

Carol Stream Park District will break ground Sept. 8 on a new-look sports field hub that will allow for an increased number of baseball and softball games at McCaslin Park along North Avenue, officials said Friday.

Plans call to reconfigure four baseball diamonds to create a hub with a concession stand, washrooms and storage area. Lighting and artificial turf infields also will be added.

The $3.5 million project is being funded with proceeds from a 2010 referendum proposal approved by park district residents.

The work is scheduled for completion by June 2012, which will allow the district to move softball and baseball games to McCaslin while Armstrong Park undergoes construction for a flood-control project.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 5:45 p.m. Sept. 8.
