Authorities identify Westmont drowning victim

Sheriff’s officials from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula have identified a 25-year-old Westmont man who drowned while on a fishing trip over the Labor Day weekend.

Kyle Bozick was found Sunday night floating in the Whitefish River after friends he was fishing with earlier in the day reported him missing, Alger County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Matthew Waldron said.

Authorities said they believe Bozick had a seizure and drowned.

A search-and-rescue team searched for Bozick in canoes because the river is in an isolated and heavily wooden area, Waldron said.

Bozick was found about a mile from where crews staged the search in about 3 to 4 feet of water, officials said.

“He was with a party of three other people,” Waldron said. “That party split into two groups and he got separated from the guy he was with.”

Bozick’s friends called the sheriff’s department at 4 p.m. after conducting an unsuccessful search of their own starting late that morning, Waldron said. Search crews found Bozick around 8:30 p.m.

An autopsy performed Tuesday was inconclusive, but officials said there was nothing to indicate foul play.
