‘Made in China’ destroying U.S.

Kathy Chu, in USA Today, is wrong to claim that we benefit from “Made in China.”

First — losing jobs. I don’t think the 1 million sales/marketing jobs in this country created by imports offsets the more than 5 million manufacturing jobs lost by outsourcing.

Our worsening trade imbalance with China is indisputable.

Second — lost revenues. Americans without jobs don’t pay taxes and, in fact, collect unemployment benefits and use more food stamps. This, plus giving corporations tax incentives to move jobs overseas, fuels an ever-growing budgets deficit.

Third — domestic economic consequences. As a result, the government cuts back investing in education, infrastructure and R&D while China spends substantially more.

Last — we sell China billions in dollars in U.S. securities every year to fund our debt. Thus, they undermine our economic and military position in the world while advancing China’s.

“Made in China” is really destroying the American middle class and undermining our future as a nation.
