• Ricardo M. Tapia, 26, of the 300 block of Hill Street in Genoa, appeared in bond court Thursday on a felony theft charge. He took furniture and appliances from his girlfriend's former condo, according to court documents and Carpentersville police. Tapia took a refrigerator, stove, washer, dryer, microwave, dishwasher, bedroom set, two coffee tables and two lamps from a condo the landlord furnished on June 7 on the 1600 block of Silverstone Drive in Carpentersville, police said. He was arrested Wednesday. Bail was set at $5,000, of which Tapia must pay 10 percent to be released before his next court date, scheduled for Sept. 7 in St. Charles.
• Two men in a pickup truck stole a bunch of metal pipes and other scrap metal between 4;15 p.m. and 4:25 p.m. Wednesday from a gravel pit on the 19N700 block of Square Barn Road near Huntley, reports said. They tried to offer gravel workers $100 in exchange for not calling police and when the workers refused, the men drove away.
