Hanover Park man charged in Schaumburg crash

The Hanover Park motorcyclist seriously injured last week in a collision with a van in Schaumburg has been charged with causing the crash.

Byron D. Griffin, 34, of the 2000 block of Poplar Avenue, was charged Wednesday with disobeying a red light, not having the proper license classification to operate a motorcycle and having illegal handlebars on his vehicle.

Griffin continues to be treated for his injuries at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he’s expected to remain for about another week, Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said.

According to investigators, Griffin had been riding his 2000 Harley Davidson motorcycle east on Schaumburg Road when it struck the driver’s side of a 2005 Toyota Sienna traveling northbound on Summit Drive.

The Toyota was driven by a 44-year-old Schaumburg woman who was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Both drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles.
