Buffalo Grove fire kills 1 dog, injures another

A fire that started in the kitchen of a Buffalo Grove home and spread into the attic Wednesday afternoon killed one of the family’s dogs and injured another, according to fire officials.

The blaze, which broke out about 2 p.m. on the 700 block of Farrington Drive, took firefighters about 10 minutes to bring under control, said Buffalo Grove Battalion Chief Brian Barna.

When firefighters arrived there was heavy smoke billowing through the roof, and two dogs were found inside. One was revived, but the other died due to smoke, officials said.

The home was deemed uninhabitable. Damage was estimated at more than $100,000, Barna said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Wednesday night.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters from any of the nine area departments that assisted Buffalo Grove at the scene.
