Des Plaines man sentenced to 12½ years for sexually assaulting a child

A 62-year-old Des Plaines man pleaded guilty Monday to sexually assaulting a child.

A Cook County judge sentenced Dinesh Ray, of the 9000 block of Emerson St., to 12 years and six months in prison in exchange for Ray’s guilty plea to predatory criminal sexual assault, a class X felony punishable by six to 30 years in prison.

According to Cook County Sheriff’s Police, whose officers investigated the complaint, Ray assaulted the youngster, who was a family friend, on three occasions over eight years.

The abuse began when the girl was 5 years old, police said. She reportedly informed family members last year, at which time they immediately contacted authorities, police said.

Ray reportedly admitted to officers that he abused the victim, police said.
