Ex-candidate up for Island Lake post:
The Island Lake village board will meet today to discuss naming two people to the lake management committee, among other business. One of the prospective appointees is local resident Mary Piekarski, who unsuccessfully ran for the village board this past spring. The other nominee is Dave Woitas, officials said. If Piekarski gets the post, which comes with a $30-per-meeting stipend, she’d be the second ex-candidate to be appointed to a village committee in recent months. Allen Murvine, who ran with Piekarski and eventual winner Chuck Cermak for the board, was named to the liquor commission in July. That job also comes with a $30 stipend for meetings. Today’s meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at village hall, 3720 Greenleaf Ave.
