Arts in Bartlett is pleased to sponsor a new art exhibit, “For the Sake of Light”, by Craig Brandt, featuring light painting images, through Wednesday, Aug. 31, at the village of Bartlett 2nd floor Art Gallery, 228 Main St, Bartlett.

Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.

Craig Brandt of Bartlett, is a freelance photographer in the Chicago area. After receiving his master’s and undergraduate degrees from Northern Illinois University, he pursued a 20-year career in the music industry. Along this journey, life’s path took a turn when he found himself being drawn into the desire of making exceptional images with the camera. It was at this point the focus of his career became professional photography.

Brandt’s body of works includes fine art photography, sporting events, editorial coverage for several local news publications and the international news wire service Penta Press. His book “Sailing by the Belle,” released last fall, chronicled the sport of yacht racing off the coast of Racine, Wis., and coverage of several national regattas.

A portion of Brandt’s fine art work includes a specialized technique called light painting. This type of photography creates unique images with a “painting like” quality by creating the images in the dark using various types of flashlights. The monthlong exhibit at the village hall gallery “For the Sake of Light” will feature many of the light paintings and images from Brandt’s new book of the same namesake to be released in the fall/winter of 2011.
