Jeepers Sneakers gives shoes to needy LZ kids

Jeapers Sneakers

The school year is quickly approaching us here in Lake Zurich. For many children that means new shoes, clothing and backpacks, just to name a few things.

With the economy being what it is, it's not easy to give our children all that they may want or need.

Emmaus-House of Hospitality in Lake Zurich found a way.

That is where Jeepers Sneakers comes in. Thanks to a grant that was received from the Hawthorne Womens Club it was made possible.

In the middle of July at the Emmaus-House dinners we started measuring children from kindergarten age through high school. We thank Famous Footwear for helping us with that.

Each child was given a green ticket. The week of Aug. 7, an announcement was made that everyone who had received a green ticket when their children had been sized should bring it to the Aug. 14th dinner.

On Aug. 14, there was a feeling of excitement in the air. The person making announcements said that everyone who had green tickets should come up to the front. An area had been set up so that we could make sure that the shoes fit properly.

To see the look on these childrens faces is a feeling that is hard to describe. Every child and there were 60 of them recieved new Nike Shoes and 6 pair of socks. We had children dancing around because they were so excited. They wanted to wear the shoes then, but their parents told them to wait till school started.

It was a great evening that will be remembered for a long time. A childs smile warms your heart so it isn't easily forgotten. We thank everyone that was involved in helping to make this such a great sucess and 60 children very happy.
