Mount Prospect man accused of molesting two teens

Buffalo Grove police have arrested a 57-year-old Mount Prospect man on sexual assault and abuse charges involving two 15-year-old boys at a Buffalo Grove business.

Herbert M. Burgess, of the 2300 block of South Lexington Drive, is charged with one count of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony punishable by four to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000, and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony punishable by three to seven years in prison and a fine of up to $25,000.

Police began an investigation Friday after a parent reported that one of the teens had been sexually abused at the Buffalo Grove business. Upon further investigation, authorities said Monday, police determined a second juvenile had also been abused at the same business, located in an industrial park.

The accusations stem from events that occurred within the past two weeks, authorities said. Police declined to name the business Monday because their investigation is ongoing.

“We’re still looking into whether there are additional victims and additional incidences,” Buffalo Grove police Cmdr. Steve Husak said. “There might be a pattern there.”

Burgess appeared in court Sunday, when his bond was set at $1 million. He is scheduled to return to court Aug. 31 at the Lake County courthouse in Waukegan.
