Man puts gun to cabdriver’s head in Gurnee

A man wearing a ski mask put a gun to a Gurnee cabdriver’s head Monday night before fleeing when the driver told him he did not have any money, according to police.

A roughly 25-year-old black man approached the cab on the 37300 block of Shirley Drive just after 10 p.m. and demanded money, said Lake County Sheriff’s Sgt. Timothy Jonites. The man was also described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall

Police said the taxi was headed to a home on the block to pick someone up, but the attempted robber had no connection to the residents.

The cabdriver was not injured.

No one is in custody, and the robbery attempt remains under investigation.
