Vote for candidates, not campaigners

I have just read two letters in Fence Post on the importance of voting — that it is the people’s responsibility to vote so the right people are elected.

In my opinion, the apathy of voters comes from people tired of voting for the lesser or two evils.

There doesn’t seem to be any candidates worth voting for who have any knowledge of running our country; their expertise lies in running their own campaigns.

For years politicians have lied to us and told us what we want to hear only to get elected. Now it seems only the richest politicians with the biggest coffers get elected. Governmental knowledge and telling the truth don’t seem to affect the outcome, example being our recent Illinois governors.

How can we stop this from happening?

One-term limits and limits and caps on political funding seem to be the logical answers. We’ve got to get back to electing people who are truly knowledgeable and dedicated to the best interests of this country and not their own interests.

We need to push for these measures and with their enactment the voters will come out and be enthusiastic to vote for the best person who knows how to do the job rather than the politician who knows how to campaign the best.

Setting one-term limits and leveling the monetary political field can only procure a better candidate for all.
