Teen killed was moving to Rolling Meadows

text size: AAA

A downstate teen who was preparing to move to Rolling Meadows to join his mother, was killed in a single car crash in downstate Galesburg, Knox County authorities said Friday.

Quinn J. Dombrow, 16, whose mother had recently moved to the 4700 block of Arbor Drive in Rolling Meadows, was a passenger in a BMW SUV at 8:56 a.m. Wednesday when the car driven by friend Dustin Frazier, 17, of Galesburg, lost control.

The car swerved off Knox Road, and rolled over multiple times, said Knox County Sheriff David Clague.

Clague said Dombrow was staying with Frazier in Galesburg until the start of school in the fall. He said Dombrow’s mother had recently sold her Galesburg home, moved to Rolling Meadows, and Dombrow planned to join her later this month.

Clague said the two teens were not wearing seat belts before the crash, and both were ejected from the car after it rolled over two or three times in the ditch on Knox Road.

He said both were pronounced dead at the scene.

He said a preliminary investigation showed that drugs or alcohol did not play a role in the crash, However, he said, toxicology results would not be available until later.

He said speed seemed to be the contributing factor in the crash.

Frazier, who was driving, was found partially ejected from the vehicle, while Dombrow, who was in the passenger seat, was thrown about 75 feet from the vehicle.

The teens had been students at Galesburg High School.

According to the Peoria Journal-Star, a candlelight vigil and memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at the basketball court where the two played frequently. The court is across the street from Casey’s General Store, 221 N. Depot St., Wataga, IL.

Watson Funeral Home, 1849 N. Seminary St., Galesburg, is handling the arrangements. They can be reached at (309) 342-1913.
