Holy Family Fun Fest has healthy objective

Holy Family Medical Center’s third annual Family Fun Fest will welcome hundreds of families out for an afternoon of free activities and health screenings from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at its Des Plaines campus, 150 N. River Road.

Families can “Ask a Doctor” about any medical-related concerns they have and receive free “Let’s Move Our Numbers” screenings, which include blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and body mass index.

Activities include a climbing wall, interactive germ-glow stations, teddy bear and doll checkups, face painting, a moonwalk, Zumba Dance lessons, exploring a fire truck, and a helicopter landing. Free makeovers for moms will be provided by Avon.

“Fun Fest promises to inspire community members to become more health conscious by learning more about their conditions or preventing illnesses, while having fun doing it,” said John Baird, CEO, Holy Family Medical Center. “We want to do our part by making health screenings accessible and fun.”

The first 100 kids younger than 18 to enter Fun Fest will receive a free backpack. Plus, anyone who visits five or more health activities will receive a free lunch. There will be drawings for prizes every half-hour and free Avon products.

Parents can also take advantage of $30 sports and school physicals for their children. Immunizations, lab tests and X-rays are not included, and registration is required for this special offer by calling (877) 737-4636.

This year’s Family Fun Fest is made possible through cosponsorships with Lattof YMCA and state Sens. Dan Kotowski and Susan Garrett. The event is being organized in collaboration with the City of Des Plaines Health & Human Services Department.
