Bike for Life a big success

By all accounts, the first Elgin Bike for Life event July 10 was a success. More than $6,000 in proceeds will go toward purchasing bike racks for elementary schools in Elgin. In addition, the ride through rural Kane County gave local families a chance to discover the scenic beauty existing in our backyard while exercising.

The Elgin Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee has a number of groups to thank for supporting our event, such as Benchmark Construction, DSM, SMC, Provena St. Joseph’s, Activate Elgin and Fit for Kids. Mostly it was the hard work of The Village Pedaler, our co-sponsor that helped out in a big way. The BPAC looks forward to seeing more riders next summer as we continue to promote biking and walking as a lifestyle in Elgin.
