Hunt down bargains at Yesterday’s Farm flea market in Wood Dale

From glassware and vintage jewelry to boxes of yellowing magazines and the appendages of discarded mannequins, the Yesterday’s Farm Flea Market has it all.

For almost a decade the annual event has been a summer favorite among antique lovers and bargain hunters alike.

“You can find all kinds of different buys, from normal everyday stuff to something you’ve been looking for a long time to find,” said Judi Ryan, first vice president of the Wood Dale Historical Society, which runs the flea market as a fundraiser for its events and programs.

The flea market runs 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at Yesterday’s Farm, 850 N. Wood Dale Road, Wood Dale.

The annual sale began as a fundraiser for the historical society nine years ago after a car show failed to raise sufficient funds.

“We have a good response,” said Ann Morong, one of the event’s organizers. “We have a lot of people coming through and very nice vendors.”

The flea market draws almost 40 vendors each year, though Ryan hopes the event will reach 60 sellers someday.

From the group’s White Elephant booth to festival fare, the public appeal of the flea market has remained constant, drawing roughly 600 shoppers.

“The biggest change is the different types of people that come to vend their wares,” Ryan said.

The flea market is part of a milestone summer for the Wood Dale Historical Society. The organization celebrates its 40th anniversary along with the 40th anniversary of its annual Harvest Fest.
