Gacy story merely sensationalism

I am appalled by your headline article on Aug. 1 regarding “Gacy secrets.” Why would a respectful news organization promote nothing more than a book sale on its opening pages? What is the news here? Is it that a defense attorney turned judge is now cashing in on his most infamous client?

I have often heard of the newspaper adage “when it bleeds, it leads,” but this is taking that way too far. Come on, Daily Herald editors, put some real news on your pages. Certainly there is enough material in the world that you can report on rather than to dredge up a horrific crime from 40 years ago, bringing nothing but more pain to the families of this criminal’s victims. Haven’t they been through enough?

This is nothing but mere sensationalism designed to sell more newspapers by splashing the picture of a local criminal on the front page. How can you stoop so low? This is not the fine journalism I expect from you. This is tabloid journalism at its finest.
