Ingleside man pleads not guilty on weapons charge

An Ingleside man pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges that he pointed a pistol he was not allowed to possess at another man during an argument.

Miguel Gonzalez, 21, faces up to seven years in prison if convicted of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

He could also face an additional five years in prison if his probation for a 2010 conviction for aggravated battery is revoked and he is resentenced for that offense.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Marykay Foy said Gonzalez, of the 2600 block of Lakeview Lane, was talking with two friends at the intersection of Rollins Road and Blackhawk Lane in Ingleside on the evening of July 5.

The driver of a car started to harass Gonzalez and his friends, Foy said, and Gonzalez waved a .22 caliber handgun in the direction of the car.

A passenger in the car called police, and Gonzalez was caught after a short chase by Lake County sheriff’s deputies.

On Aug. 8, 2010, Gonzalez was placed on probation for two years after he pleaded guilty to aggravated battery.

Associate Judge Theodore Potkonjak explained the potential consequences for Gonzalez in both cases and ordered him to return to court Aug. 25.

Gonzalez is being held in the Lake County jail on $200,000 bond.
