Des Plaines Fire Corps volunteers needed

The Des Plaines Fire Corps Program, a group of volunteers that supplements first responders during times of emergency and city events and supports the police and fire departments as needed, is seeking volunteers.Fire Corps, a partner program of Citizen Corps, is part of the Des Plaines Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency. Fire Corps Program candidates will be trained on support operations for traffic, road closures, emergency vehicle operations, scene illumination, as well as other support opportunities. The response unit is #147;on call#148; to respond as needed to various emergency activities. According to Citizen Corps division coordinator Bruce Ahlmann, candidates must be 18 years old and older (21 years old to drive city vehicles), interested in helping the community through volunteerism, and live in proximity to the city of Des Plaines to be accessible to assisting with emergency responses, city events, etc. Candidates will undergo a background investigation and will be fingerprinted.
