Guilty plea in North Aurora attack

A 26-year-old Aurora man was sentenced to four years probation for forcing his way into his former girlfriend’s home in North Aurora and punching her.

Gregory D. Williamson, of the 900 block of Jackson Street, also must pay $3,725 in court costs and fines and attend weekly domestic violence counseling after pleading guilty to felony aggravated domestic battery, court records show.

Kane County Judge Karen Simpson accepted the plea in which prosecutors dropped charges of home invasion, telephone harassment and two misdemeanor counts of domestic battery.

The most serious charge of home invasion carried mandatory prison time of six years with a top end of 30 years.

Williamson was arrested on Jan. 9 after leaving his ex-girlfriend’s house in the 300 block of Butterfield Road. He was accused of calling and threatening her, forcing his way inside and punching and choking her, authorities said. The woman suffered minor injuries.

Williamson also spent 200 days in jail before pleading guilty. If he violates probation, prosecutors can ask for up to seven years in prison on the felony domestic battery charges.
